TOPIC: Habits Can Be Changed
BIBLE READING: Romans 6:11-23
MEMORISE: If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed
John 8:36
What are some of your bad habits? I once knew someone who used to pick earwax out of their ears whenever they were thinking. Gross, right?!
But it’s not just the gross or weird habits that can be a problem. What about the things you feel like you have to do? Like checking your phone as soon as you wake up, counting the likes on each of your Facebook posts, only drinking fizzy drinks or buying new clothes each week.
From what we wear and eat, to what we look at online—anything can take over our lives if we let it. The more we do something, the more we have to do it again to feel the buzz it gives us.
Jesus came not only to forgive us for the things we’ve done wrong, but also to break anything that has control of us. When we trust Him and ask Him to make us brand new, He also asks something of us—a willingness, with His help, to live out new, God-centred habits (Rom. 6:19). As we spend time with other Christians, study the Bible and follow Jesus each day, God will help us to change how we live. He will be the only One in control—not our phones, diet or social media.
Do you have some bad habits that you need to change? Let God help you live out new, God-centred routines. He’ll make you “free indeed” (John 8:36).
KEY POINT: TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HABITS OR YOUR HABITS WILL TAKE CONTROL OF YOU.
