TOPIC: Why Did He Choose Me?
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Romans 5:6-11
KEY VERSE: God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8
One church leader was asked, “Why did Jesus choose Judas to be one of His closest friends?” He thought about the question for a while, but could not come up with an answer. He said that he kept running into an even bigger question: “Why did He choose me?”
That’s a question that has been asked by just about every Christian. When people become painfully aware of how far short of God’s good standards they are, they call out to Jesus for forgiveness. Then, in amazement and happiness they realise that God loves them, that Jesus died for them and that they are forgiven of all their sins. It’s fantastic news!

I have also asked, “Why me?” I know my dark side, and some of the bad things I have done in the past. I also know the things I still struggle with today. And yet God loved me enough to send His Son to die in my place! (Rom. 5:8). I didn’t deserve His rescue. I was helpless. Yet He opened His arms to me. It’s like He said: “I love you even more than you loved your sin.”
It’s true! I loved my sin, my selfishness and my independence. I protected it. I even said there was nothing wrong with it. But God loved me enough to forgive me, set me free and give me a new life with Him as His child.
“Why me?” It’s not something I can even begin to answer. But I know He loves me—and He loves you too!
REFLECT: GOD LOVES US NOT BECAUSE OF WHO WE ARE, BUT BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS.
