TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:1-6
KEY VERSE: Anyone who comes to [God] must believe that he exists – Hebrews 11:6
A friend and I were talking about God and life after death. He said, “I just wish I had proof that there is a God.”
In Hebrews 11:6 we read: “Anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” The Bible doesn’t try to prove God exists, because it knows that He does.
But if you’re unsure about whether God exists, there are three key places you can look for Him. The first is the world around us. Paul wrote: “Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” (Rom. 1:20 nlt).
The second place is your own conscience. This is a God-given ‘compass’ that challenges us to follow God’s standards of right and wrong (2:14-15).
But the most convincing place to look for God is Jesus. In everything He does and says in the Bible, we see the love, power and authority of the ruler and maker of the universe. Colossians tells us, “The Son is the image of the invisible God” (1:15) and Jesus Himself says “I and the Father are one (John 10:30).
We can see God at work in our world, in ourselves and in the Bible. When we trust Jesus as our Saviour, His Spirit gives us the confidence that our trust is in the right place.
REFLECT: OUR INFINITE GOD IS NOT A THING TO MEASURE, BUT SOMEONE TO TRUST.
