Gratification means pleasure. To delay gratification means to deny ones self of pleasure that brings immediate satisfaction. It also means to be disciplined enough not to indulge in things that would satisfy one
for a moment but hinder one from achieving greatness. Esau is an example of one who didnt delay gratification. He lived in the moment and never thought of the future.

When he killed any animal, he ate it all that day. No wonder it was easy for Jacob to rob him of his blessings. While he was still in the bush, Jacob had taken from the animals nearby, killed, prepared and served it to his father.You must delay the pleasure of sex until you get married – whether as a boy or a girl.

There is better glory in getting married as a virgin. You must deny the pleasures of sin on this earth so that you can enjoy the glory in Heaven when Christ comes.
