Topic: Who’s Your Daddy? (You Need A Mentor)

Read
2 Kings 3:11-12

11. But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12. And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

Memorise
For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1 Corinthians 4:15

As a godly teenager, you need to be mindful of whom you call a mentor or father. This is because you cannot be greater than your father, at least, not while he is still alive. Luke 6:40 says:

“The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master”

Whoever your father is sets a limit to how far you can go in life. In our Bible reading for today, the only introduction Elisha needed was that his Master (Father-in-the-Lord) was Elijah. Immediately, Jehoshaphat concluded that the word of the Lord is with him. Also, anointing flows from the top to the bottom; if your mentor has a questionable character, he/she would be passing a dangerous anointing to you.

For example, I learnt discipline and holiness from my Father-in-the-Lord, Pa Josiah Akindayomi. His anointing was not polluted in any form, it was pure and graceful. Your destination in life will determine who your mentor should be. Therefore, ask God to lead you to the right person.

Action Point
Allow God to choose a mentor for you.
