Exodus 20:15
BIBLE READING
Genesis 31:30-34
30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
33 And Laban went into Jacob’s tent, and into Leah’s tent, and into the two maidservants’ tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent.
34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.
Open Heaven For Teens 15th May 2026 – MESSAGE
Stealing is taking something that does not belong to you without permission. Many children assume that they have the right to take their parents’ belongings without asking, just because they are part of the family; this is wrong. Every item in a home has its purpose, and taking something that belongs to someone without consent can disrupt plans and cause unintended consequences.
In today’s Bible reading, Rachel took her father’s idols without his knowledge. Not only did she steal them, but she also denied it when confronted. The result was tragic – her husband unknowingly placed a curse on the thief, which ultimately led to her untimely death (Genesis 35:16-19). This story serves as a warning; taking what does not belong to you can bring serious consequences.
My dear child, if you are in the habit of taking things from your parents or friends without permission, I implore you to stop that habit today. Also, if you are not granted permission to take something, do not rebel. Instead, be content and make do with whatever you have at that moment.
ACTION POINT
If you have taken anything from anyone without permission, return it today and ask for his or her forgiveness.
