BIBLE READING: Genesis 29-30
TEXT : “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed”. Proverbs 13 :20.

The second clause of our anchor text speaks of the companion of fools which shall be destroyed. As earlier stated in the course of this topic, the destruction may not be immediate but will eventually happen. This was the case of Amnon the son David who had a wrong friend Shimeah whom the bible described as subtle (2 sam.13 :3). In fact that is the major quality of the devil, and right early in the garden of Eden in Genesis chapter 3; he manifested it through the serpent which deceived Eve, causing man to lose his place in the garden of Eden.
Amnon ought not to be companion with such a person irrespective of the fact that they were cousins. Blood tie does not mean destiny tie. He had other siblings but they were not friends with him. So that someone is a relative, fellow brethren, colleagues etc. does not necessarily mean you make friends with them.
Your friends should be those in agreement with certain major principles that pilot your destiny to glory. Hence scripture says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3 :3). Several major crashes in destiny is because people make friends with persons against their belief and principles of life.
In 2 Samuel 13; Amnon got a counsel from Shimeah to deceive his sister Tamar the daughter of his father, and sexually, forced himself on her, despite her plea. He had his way and went about his business, not knowing that Absalom the brother of Tamar, had a plan for him in future. Precisely, two years after, Absalom who still nurses the hurt in his heart, executed his plan and ended his life.
Keeping company with a fool leads to destruction.
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray now, deliver me from the companion of fools.
