A Great Calm For A Great Storm(3)
by Rev. (Dr) Lizzy Johnson-Suleman

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: 1 John 4-5.

TEXT: For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. Isaiah 30 :15.

Message: Fear and panic in the midst of a storm is a sign of defeat, but calmness and peace are sign of victory. In your calmness and peace based on the knowledge of truth, God arises and causes the storm to cease. He provides a way of escape (1 Cor. 10 :13) which you can only access when you are peaceful with assurance of His deliverance. “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left” (Isaiah 30 :21).

There is power in being still in the midst of storm. Calmness is a great force that confuses the opposition and gives them a great concern. See the words of that Rabshakeh, an enemy of Israel sent to Hezekiah “And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, what confidence is this wherein thou trustest? I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?” (Isaiah 36 :4-5).Take note that the opposition is troubled when its opponent is at peace despite his threat.

I discovered in the Bible that even some cities that Israel were supposed to destroy escaped destruction because of their great calm. “But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them…” (Joshua 11 :13). Hallelujah!

PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, I refuse to lose my calmness in any storm of life.
