Eating Your Tomorrow Today (2)
By Rev (Dr.) Lizzy-Johnson Suleman
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:Â Psalm 123-125
TEXT: Reubens, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch. – Genesis 49 :3 – 4.
Imagine the praise, the honour, the position all wasted because of short pleasure in a short time. Reuben ate his tomorrow yesterday. His position was given to Joseph. Joseph took his own share as Jacob’s son of the 12 tribes of Israel and Reuben’s share. Joseph had the same temptation like Reuben, but he was looking at the future not immediate satisfaction. “And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me,
But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master’s wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I ; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Genesis 39 :7 – 9.
Despite the pressure, the punishment he faced, he refused to eat his tomorrow, he focused on his future. I am sure Mrs. Potiphar was doing it with other servants who ended up being under her.
Child of God, you have a price to pay. If there is no pain, there is no gain. But the truth is the pain is no way compared to the gain or glory that will be revealed in the pain is no way compared to the gain or glory that will be revealed in your life (2 Cor. 4 :17).
Joseph paid the price and at the end when he became the prime minister even Potiphar’s wife was under him. Refuse to eat your tomorrow today like Reubens who had all in his advantage as the first son but he traded it fo immediate pleasure.
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, Lord, help me to run away from sin.
