Learning from the God Shepherd(2)
by Apostle (Prof) Johnson Suleman
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Amos 5-6
TEXT: “I am the good shepherd: the good Shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd”, John 10 :11 – 12.
In continuation with the topic ‘Learning from the Good Shepherd’ we want to see some scriptural examples of persons who operated in the spirit of the good shepherd and also some who operated as hirelings.
The first example of persons with the spirit of the good shepherd was Joseph. Serving in the house of his master, Joseph distinguished himself in service to the extent that his master left all that he had in his hand and knew not ought he had except the bread which he did eat. And the LORD blessed his master, the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake.
These (Joseph and Potiphar) were two different persons of different beliefs – an Israelites and an Egyptian, yet because of absolute commitment of Joseph in service, the master entrusted all he had into his hands. And it was that same spirit of the good shepherd that stood him out in the prison and also in the palace. In the spirit of the good shepherd did Joseph operate in Egypt.
He served Pharaoh faithfully, governed Egypt all through the reigh of Pharaoh for the good of Pharaoh. Scripture says in Genesis 47 :14; “And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into pharaoh’s house”.
He also bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, only the land of the priests were not bought vs. 20 – 22. Joseph stood in for Pharaoh, he governed Egypt even better than Pharaoh would have. He did not say because he was not from Egypt and did otherwise secretly.
And as the blessing came in for Pharaoh so also to him. He became the preserver of his brothers and his people.
Child of God, the world needs such persons, can you be found?
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray now, help me to operate in the spirit of the good shepherd and also connect such men to me.
