The MESSAGE:
In James 4:7, the Bible commands believers to resist the devil. It is important for you to know why you need to resist the devil and how to do so.
First, you need to resist the devil because he is your unrelenting foe. You need to resist the devil because he will try to keep you from your inheritance. How? He will attack your thoughts and mindset. Don’t let the devil mess with your thoughts. That is why the Bible commands that you be transformed by the renewing of your mind. That is the only way you can know the perfect and excellent will of God. When your mind is renewed by the power of His word, the devil will not be able to stop you from being all God created you to be.
The subtle enemy beguiled Adam and Eve by attacking Eve’s thoughts and mindset. He succeeded in stealing their inheritance. He attempted to do the same with Jesus, but the Son of God defeated him with the unusual power in the word of God. If God says you should sow seed so that he can bless you and the enemy comes to tell you not to sow, you should resist the devil by telling him that in the kingdom of God, if you sow, you enable God to bless you and give you good harvest. If the word of God says you should forgive, do so. Don’t let the devil put wrong thoughts that lead to disobedience and sin in your mind.

Resist the devil by having the mind of christ. No one can resist the devil for you. It is your responsibility to do it yourself. Nobody can renew your mind for you; you have to do it yourself. Be an avid reader and doer of God’s word. Meditate on God’s word as well. It has the power to renew your mind. The word of God will also give you the mind and attitude of Christ.
You also have to walk in Christ and in your inheritance. As the Israelites have enemies in the Promised Land, you also have enemies that do not want you to get your inheritance. The devil and his cohorts are the giants you must dislodge from your Promised Land through the sword of the Spirit and effectual fervent prayers.
Ephesians 4:27 says, “Give no place to the devil.” How? Believe in your inheritance, think the thoughts of Jesus, meditate on the word of the Lord, rejoice in the Lord.
Similarly, Colossians 2:6-7 says “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
Beloved, I encourage you to fight the fight of faith against the devil. Resist him and he will flee from you.
