TOPIC:Β Good Follower, Great Leader.

MEMORY VERSE:Β β€œObey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account.” – Hebrews 13:17

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
β€œLeadership is an opportunity to serve, it is not a trumpet call to self-importance.”

PRAISE AND WORSHIP

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
β€œThe Lord shall make you head and not the tail; you shall be above always and never be beneath, in the name of Jesus.”

FIRE SCRIPTURE:Β 1 Kings 19:15-16, 19-21

15Β TheΒ LordΒ said to him, β€œGo back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint HazaelΒ king over Aram.Β 16Β Also, anointΒ Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint ElishaΒ son of Shaphat from Abel MeholahΒ to succeed you as prophet.

The Call of Elisha

19Β So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloakΒ around him.Β 20Β Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. β€œLet me kiss my father and mother goodbye,” he said, β€œand then I will come with you.”

β€œGo back,” Elijah replied. β€œWhat have I done to you?”

21Β So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxenΒ and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.

MFM Daily Devotional 23 June 2025: MESSAGE

Show me a faithful, loyal, and committed follower, and I will show you a great leader! Followership is not just an act but a process that you must put your totality into if you must become a great leader in due course. It is an apprenticeship, a training through which the individual is adequately mentored to the extent that he becomes a replica of the leader. No wonder the apostles were seen to be Christlike at Antioch, hence they were called β€œChristians” for the first time.

Jesus said whoever desires to be great must first be a servant (Mark 10:43-44). He was himself a leader with a servant’s heart. He wants us to emulate the same. Unfortunately, many Christians are in a hurry today to get to the position of leadership.

Beloved, you must have a good report of followership to become a great leader. Leadership does not just happen; it must be virtuously developed. God instructed Elijah to appoint Elisha as the next prophet in his stead, but Elisha was not in a hurry to take the master’s position. He surrendered himself to be led and followed the footsteps of his master. He did not miss the mantle of power when Elijah was briskly taken to heaven (2 Kings 2:1-5). He refused to be distracted even by the sons of prophets. He followed his master till he received the double portion anointing!

God still looks out for such steadfastness and faithfulness in followers who desire to be great leaders. But we should not be like Gehazi, who had the opportunity to become the next great prophet of God (with double the portion of Elisha’s anointing) but lost his eternal prospects as a result of covetousness (2 Kings 5:20-27).

Do you desire a stand in leadership for the kingdom? Then decide to be that sincere, loyal, and committed follower that Jesus is looking for.
