Haman’s Plan to Destroy the Jews
3 After these things happened, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite. The king promoted Haman and gave him a place of honor more important than any of the other leaders. 2 All the king’s leaders at the king’s gate would bow down and give honor to Haman. This is what the king commanded them to do. But Mordecai refused to bow down or give honor to Haman. 3 Then the king’s leaders at the gate asked Mordecai, “Why don’t you obey the king’s command to bow down to Haman?”

4 Day after day, the king’s leaders spoke to Mordecai, but he refused to obey the command to bow down to Haman. So they told Haman about it. They wanted to see what Haman would do about Mordecai. Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew. 5 When Haman saw that Mordecai refused to bow down to him or give him honor, he was very angry. 6 Haman had learned that Mordecai was a Jew. But he was not satisfied to kill only Mordecai. He also wanted to find a way to destroy all of Mordecai’s people, the Jews, in all of Xerxes’ kingdom.

MESSAGE: Today, we shall continue with the lessons from the life of Mordecai which we commenced yesterday. We shall look at another aspect of the virtues to learn from him.

According to today’s Fire Scripture, Mordecai was loyal to God and all that He represents. As a result of this, he refused to bow down to Haman (vs 4). It is likely that the honour the king’s servants and others gave to Haman was not deserved or it was the type only for God. Daniel’s three companions showed the same conviction and loyalty to God (Daniel 3:1-12).

Those around Mordecai wanted to know why he did not bow down or kneel. He gave them only one answer: he was a Jew. God sent the Jews into captivity to remove from them the strong pull toward following ungodly nations and worshipping their false gods. We see from Ezra and Nehemiah that the Jews who went back to Jerusalem had learned their lesson about this weakness. They wanted to regain a pure form of worship back to God.

Dearly Beloved, God is still God that rules in the affairs of men. The Bible has this to say in the book of Isaiah 42:8 – God will never share His glory with anyone. The glory that belongs to God must be given to Him. That was what Mordecai realised and it made Him to ignore Haman, who was trying to play God. His loyalty to the God of the Jews was unalloyed, and because of this, God fought for the Jews. The enemy planned genocide against them, but God turned the table and the enemy paid dearly for it.

When we exalt God, He will work for us and fight for us. God will highly esteem those that can speak on His behalf.

Are you like Mordecai? Can you show your loyalty to God even in the face of daunting opposition and extermination?

PRAYER POINTS:

6. Let God arise and let all my enemies be scattered, in the Name of Jesus.
7. Jesus, encounter me and let the world know that You are my God, in the Name of Jesus.
