Deuteronomy 6:6-13
6 Always remember these commands that I give you today. 7 Be sure to teach them to your children. Talk about these commands when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road. Talk about them when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them on your hands and wear them on your foreheads to help you remember my teachings. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.
10 “The Lord your God made a promise to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He promised to give you this land, and he will give it to you. He will give you great and rich cities that you did not build. 11 He will give you houses full of good things that you did not put there. He will give you wells that you did not dig. He will give you vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant, and you will have plenty to eat.
12 “But be careful! Don’t forget the Lord. You were slaves in Egypt, but he brought you out of the land of Egypt. 13 Respect the Lord your God and serve only him. You must use only his name to make promise
March 26, 2023 MFM Daily Devotional MESSAGE
Parenting is a great responsibility. It places some enormous and diverse duties on the shoulders of every parent. The truth is that if a parent shirks or transfers his responsibilities to others; he or she cannot transfer his or her accountability to another person on the last day. This is because, every parent must render their stewardship before God at the end. Therefore, it is only wise for parents to learn what parenting entails and fulfil his or her duties to please God who created, owns and gives them children.
Parents’ duties towards a child are both physical and spiritual. Parents are responsible for providing the child with food, clothes and shelter as well as quality education, lucrative career and health, wellness and protection.
Parents also owe it to God to ensure their child’s spiritual wellbeing. A good parent will lead the child to Christ, train him or her in the way of the Lord and develop godly character and Christian values in them. More importantly, a parent is supposed to be the child’s first and best teacher in life. The home should be the child’s first school and first church, where he or she leams spiritual and secular things for all-round development.
Today, mainly because many parents failed to train their children in the way of the Lord, secular media, films, literature, social media and ungodly role models are pushing them into sin, crime, sexual immorality, character disorder and all kinds of ungodly attitudes, making parents worried and troubled.
It is time to assume our parenting roles as teachers and mentors again. It is time to save our children from these social and technological wolves! Dear parent, it is time you realise that you are a teacher to your child. A teacher is a trainer, moulder of character, coach and mentor. Are you truly doing all these for your children? If you are not, I advise you to turn a new leaf today.
It requires good parenting for your sons to be as plants grown up in their youth and for your daughters to be as comer stones, polished after the similitude of a palace (Psalm 144:12). As someone rightly put it, “If we don’t teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.” The result of this is certainly disastrous.
Stand for God beloved parent. Stand as a potter and, in partnership with the Holy Spirit, bring forth godly children. God counts on you and will be proud of your good works at the end of time.
