Read Joel Osteen Sermon Today: Can God Trust You?

It’s interesting that the apostle Paul says that our present troubles are “preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17). We like the honor, favor, and influence that come with “glory,” but we don’t always realize there’s a weight that comes with it. If you’re not prepared for it, the favor won’t be a blessing, it will be a burden. We have to pass some tests before God will trust us with the weight of glory. The delays, the disappointments, and the bad breaks are tests ordered by the Lord.

Will you be good to people who are not being good to you? Will you stay in faith when you come down with an illness, you’re overlooked for a promotion, or the pandemic slows your dreams? These are all opportunities to prove to God that you can handle the weight of glory. When you understand that God uses difficulties to get us prepared, to stretch our faith, to change us, you don’t complain when things don’t go your way.

You realize it’s serving a purpose. When you do the right thing when the wrong thing is happening, you’re getting stronger, you’re getting ready to carry the weight of glory. That’s why God doesn’t remove everything instantly.

One of the lemon trees in our backyard had so many lemons on it that a few branches couldn’t handle the weight and started to touch the ground. Those lemons didn’t develop properly. Sometimes we’re wondering why God isn’t giving us more influence, more favor, more opportunities. It may be because our branches can’t handle the weight right now.

If God gives you ten lemons but your branch can only sustain three, it’s not a blessing, it’s a burden. Instead of focusing on the fruit, focus on developing your branches. Focus on getting stronger, being a person of excellence and integrity, treating people with respect, giving God praise when you could be complaining. When your character is getting stronger, your roots are going down deeper, and you’ll be able to carry the weight of that fruit.

You have a calling on your life, and there is an assignment for you to fulfill. You weren’t created to just get by like other people; you have greatness in you. You were created to stand out, to rise higher, to leave your mark. What you do in the seemingly small areas, where nobody will know, will determine whether God can trust you with big things.

Can God trust you with more favor, with more resources, with more influence? Are you passing these tests? God is about to release a new level of favor, influence, and resources. Be that person whom He can trust to carry the weight of glory.
