TOPIC: When the Evidence Says It Won’t Change
We all have situations that look like they’re not going to work out. Perhaps no door to our dream has opened, or the medical report says we’re not going to get well, or our struggle with our finances seems permanent. All the facts say it’s not going to happen, but it’s not what we think. What we can’t see is what God has already lined up behind the scenes. We look at things in the natural, but God is supernatural. He has some shifts coming, some surprises when suddenly things change and come back to life, doors open you never dream would open.
The Scripture says, “The things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are unseen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18). One translation says the things you “see now are here today, gone tomorrow.” What God promised you is still on the way, but the enemy will work overtime telling you all the reasons it’s never going to happen. “It’s too late. You’re too old to meet the right person. Your health would have improved by now.” Don’t believe those lies.
Hebrews 11:1 states, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” God is going to do things in your life where there’s no evidence it can happen. All the facts say the dream is dead or you’ll never overcome an addiction. Don’t be moved by what you see; it’s not what you think. God is working in ways you can’t perceive. His ways are higher and better than our ways. If you can see it, it doesn’t take faith. Faith kicks in when there’s no evidence. If you keep believing, keep trusting, God will do things you never saw coming, things that exceed your expectations.
In Genesis 37, Joseph’s brothers so hated him for being loved more by their father, Jacob, than them that they sold him into slavery, dipped in blood the robe of many colors that showed Jacob’s favor, and convinced Jacob that Joseph had been killed by a wild beast. For over twenty years Jacob grieved and refused to be comforted, believing the role Joseph was to play in their family’s destiny was dead. The bloody robe was the evidence, but it was not what Jacob thought. He discovered it was all a part of God’s plan to get Joseph to Egypt where he would become the prime minister and save the family from the famine.
Now quit focusing on the bloody robe you can see—what hasn’t happened, the person who hurt you, the dream that didn’t work out. It’s not what you think. Joseph is still alive. Get your hopes up. God has some surprises headed your way; problems will turn around, doors will open, and Joseph will show up. You will be amazed by the greatness of our God.
