TOPIC: God’s Long Reach
KEY VERSE: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).
MESSAGE: Moving into a New Year is the beginning of a long trip traversing days, weeks, months and seasons. These early days may seem cloudy, dizzy and hazy. Built into them are yet an unseen labyrinth of grave challenges man would battle with, the outcome of which would determine shape of the year.
In other words, there would be an experience akin to “void….. and darkness upon the face of the deep”. However, this stage of formlessness, darkness and Uncertainty was not to last. The Spirit of the Creator intervened to shape up the system and give it a stable foundation upon which erect an order for a great future for more of the wonders of God to come into existence. Thus, from the apparently dusky start of the earth, the Lord finally brought forth a golden and glorious cosmos which we see today.
When the psalmist, some thousands of years later, looked at what God had made out of the “void” he exclaimed: “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!…. When I consider thy heavens….the stars, which thou hast ordained……” For humans to overcome the emptiness in their lives and conquer the traditional anxieties that come up in the New Year, they must allow the laws of the Creator to guide them the same way the” Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” and brought wholeness to the planet.
The Lord must have His way in our lives before we can enjoy His peace, security and blessings. He knows all the entrails of the womb of the New Year and beyond and He only can deliver us from its evil. If we make God our Guide as we can set our feet into the year and we do not falter in our commitment while following Him, we are poised for the fulfillment of a happy and prosperous season indeed.
Our world can benefit more from the wonderful creative works of the Lord if we yield to His Lordship.
