BIBLE VERSE FOR TODAY: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:1–2
Life is often described as a journey, but this passage paints it as a race—a race that requires endurance, focus, and determination. And if we are honest, there are days when the race feels exhausting. Days when the weight we carry feels too heavy, and the path ahead feels too long.
Hebrews 12:1–2 reminds us that we are not running alone. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—those who have gone before us, who endured, who believed, and who finished their race in faith. Their lives stand as encouragement that it is possible to keep going, even when it’s hard.
But we are also given a clear instruction: lay aside every weight. Not everything we carry is meant for the journey. Some things slow us down—distractions, worries, past mistakes, and even unnecessary burdens we’ve grown used to holding. God calls us to release them so we can run freely.
And then there is the key to it all—fixing our eyes on Jesus.
When we focus on our problems, we grow weary. When we focus on the length of the race, we feel discouraged. But when we fix our eyes on Jesus, something shifts. We find strength in His example. We remember that He endured the cross, not because it was easy, but because of the joy set before Him.
That same strength is available to us.
Endurance is not about running fast; it is about not giving up. It is about continuing forward, step by step, trusting God with every part of the journey. And as we keep our eyes on Jesus, He sustains us, strengthens us, and leads us to the finish.
So if you feel tired today, don’t quit. If the weight feels heavy, release it to God. If the path feels long, remember who you are following.
Keep running. You are closer than you think.
Let’s Pray
Lord God, thank You for calling me into this race of faith. You see the moments when I feel weary, when I feel burdened, and when I feel like giving up.
Help me to lay aside every weight that is slowing me down. Give me the strength to release anything that is not from You—every fear, every distraction, every sin that entangles me.
Teach me to fix my eyes on Jesus. When I feel discouraged, remind me of His endurance and His victory. Strengthen my heart to keep going, even when the journey feels difficult.
Lord, fill me with endurance. Help me to run faithfully the race You have set before me, trusting You every step of the way.
Thank You for being with me, for guiding me, and for carrying me when I am weak. I will keep running, with my eyes on You.
