BIBLE VERSE FOR TODAY: “When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.’” – Revelation 1:17–18

There are moments in life when fear feels overwhelming—when uncertainty about the future, pain in the present, or even the reality of death tries to shake our peace. In those moments, we need more than comfort—we need truth.
In Revelation 1:17–18, John encounters the risen Christ in all His glory. The sight is so powerful that he falls at Jesus’ feet in awe. But instead of leaving him in fear, Jesus reaches out with reassurance: “Do not be afraid.”
Those words carry deep power because of who is speaking them.
Jesus declares that He is the first and the last—the One who was before all things and the One who remains after all things. He is eternal, unchanging, and fully in control.
He calls Himself the living One. He faced death, conquered it, and now lives forevermore. This means there is no fear, no darkness, and no finality that is beyond His authority.
And then comes the powerful statement: “I have the keys of death and of Hades.”
Keys represent authority. Jesus holds complete power over life, death, and eternity. Nothing is outside His hands. This truth gives us confidence—not because life is always easy, but because the One who holds all things is trustworthy.
When fear rises, we can remember this: Jesus is alive. He is present. He is in control.
Whatever you are facing today—whether it is uncertainty, grief, fear, or questions about tomorrow—His hand is still reaching toward you, saying, “Do not be afraid.”
You are held by the One who holds eternity.
Let’s Pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the living One, the first and the last, and the One who holds all authority in heaven and on earth.
When fear tries to overwhelm me, remind me that You are in control. Help me to trust that nothing in my life is outside Your hands.
Lord, speak peace to my heart where there is anxiety, comfort where there is grief, and confidence where there is uncertainty.
Thank You for conquering death and for giving me hope that is eternal. Help me to live each day with faith, knowing that You are alive forevermore and that I am safe in You.
I choose today not to fear, but to trust in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
