The Christian life is not only about believing—it is also about being ready.
Jesus uses a simple but powerful picture in Luke 12:35–36: servants dressed and prepared, lamps burning, watching and waiting for their master’s return. They were not distracted, careless, or asleep. They were alert, faithful, and expectant.
This speaks to how we are called to live.
To be “dressed in readiness” means living with intention. It means keeping our hearts right with God, walking in obedience, and staying spiritually awake. It is a reminder that our faith should not be casual or postponed for another day.
“Keep your lamps lit” points to maintaining our spiritual fire. It is possible to grow weary, distracted, or spiritually cold. But God calls us to stay close to Him through prayer, His Word, and daily surrender so that our light continues to shine.
Readiness is not fear—it is faithfulness.
It is living each day with the awareness that God’s presence matters now and that His promises are certain. It means being prepared not just for Christ’s return, but for every opportunity He places before us today.
Sometimes, we become too comfortable with delay. We assume there is always more time. But Jesus reminds us to stay awake, to stay faithful, and to remain expectant.
A ready heart is a peaceful heart because it is rooted in trust.
So today, ask yourself: Is my lamp still burning? Am I living with spiritual readiness? Am I watching for God, or distracted by everything else?
