BIBLE VERSE FOR TODAY: “Jesus turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.’” – Matthew 16:23
Matthew 16:23 is one of the most startling moments in the Gospels.
Peter loved Jesus deeply. Yet when Jesus began speaking about His coming suffering and death, Peter objected. He could not understand why the Messiah would have to endure such hardship.
In response, Jesus said, “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
This passage teaches an important lesson: God’s ways are often different from our natural way of thinking.
Peter was focused on comfort, safety, and immediate success. God, however, was accomplishing a far greater purpose through the cross—a purpose that would bring salvation to the world.
The same challenge exists for believers today.
We often view situations through a human perspective. We want quick answers, easy paths, and immediate solutions. But God sees the bigger picture. His plans are eternal, His wisdom is perfect, and His purposes are always greater than our understanding.
Sometimes what appears to be a setback is actually part of God’s preparation.
Sometimes a delay is divine timing.
Sometimes a difficult season is producing spiritual growth that could not happen any other way.
Jesus calls us to align our hearts and minds with God’s perspective rather than our own.
This requires humility.
It means trusting God even when we do not fully understand His plans. It means surrendering our preferences to His wisdom and believing that His way is always best.
When our minds are focused only on earthly concerns, we can become discouraged. But when we begin to see life through the lens of God’s purpose, faith grows stronger.
So today, ask God to help you think according to His truth. Invite Him to shape your perspective and align your heart with His will.
Because God’s purpose is always greater than what we can see in the moment.
Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your wisdom that is far greater than my own. Forgive me for the times I have focused only on human concerns and failed to trust Your greater purpose.
Lord, help me to see life from Your perspective. Align my thoughts, desires, and priorities with Your will. Give me faith to trust You even when I do not fully understand what You are doing.
When challenges come, remind me that Your plans are good and that You are working all things according to Your purpose.
Teach me to follow Jesus with humility, obedience, and confidence in Your wisdom.
Help me to seek Your kingdom above my own desires and to trust Your guidance every day.
Thank You because Your ways are perfect and Your purposes never fail.
