Daily Guide 25th March 2025 (Scripture Union) OUTLINE
To his own question (Matthew 18:21), Peter felt seven times is more than enough, but our Lord says seventy times seven times which in effect means unlimited number of times (Matthew 18:21-22) in a day (Luke 17:4). Why?
Jesus would want us to imagine a friend owing N100 million but whose debt was written off, forgiven completely. Incredible! But you see the same friend dragging a man who owes him N10 to the Police station to be remanded in custody.
What will be your immediate reaction? Ingrate, wicked! That is how odd we look when we fail to forgive those who offend us. Whatever wrongs any man may have done to us is insignificant compared to the huge debt that we owe the Father, but which Christ erased by dying on the cross (Matthew 18:23-28). The wages of sin is death, eternal separation from God, but God forgave us and gave us eternal life instead (Romans 6:23).
What is the practice in our communities and Christian organizations concerning forgiveness? Jesus wants us to be salt and light where we live, granting others the undeserved and unconditional grace we receive from God. Otherwise, what will happen to us (Matthew 18:34-35; cf. Matthew 5:13)?
And So:
Read and meditate on Ephesians 4:32.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
CLOSING PRAYER:
I don’t want to be an ingrate, Lord. Grant me the grace to readily forgive others in appreciation of your undeserved forgiveness.
