Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 March 2024 TOPIC: Evidence of Remaining In Christ

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

READ: JOHN 15:9-17

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
• Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

SU DAILY GUIDE 11 MARCH 2024 MESSAGE:

When we remain (abide) in Christ, it means that we are connected to Him, like branches to the tree. Thus, His life flows through us and produces fruits in us (vs.2,8). Read vs.9-11,14&16 again. Take note of some evidence which show that we are truly abiding in Christ.

Notice how Jesus demonstrated His love for us in v.13. Though Christ’s love for us is unconditional, He however expects us to extend the same kind of love that we have received to other believers (v.12). Love is like a bell that we ring to invite people into the church. Love was pivotal to the growth of the early church (Acts 2:44-47) and remains the mark of true disciples of Christ (John 13:34-35; 1 Corinthians 13:1-13).

How do you feel as you read v.15? The obedience that Christ demands from us is that of friends not slaves. Friends love each other and always want to do that which makes each other happy. As His friends, Jesus expects that we understand His will and secrets, and so, obeying Him should not be difficult for us.
