Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 March 2024 TOPIC: Remain In Me

OPENING PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

READ: John 15:1-8

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?
• Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

DAILY GUIDE 10TH MARCH 2024 OUTLINE:

What is God’s expectation of every believer (vs.1-2,8)? As living branches, every Christian who is truly connected to Christ should be productive. That is the reason Christ chose us (John 15:16).

Fruits are always obvious, attractive, and beneficial, even so our character should reflect Christ and attract others to Him (Matthew 5:16). In Galatians 5:22-23, we find a list of the fruit God expects us to bear. Read vs.4-7 again and identify our main responsibility in order to bear abiding fruits. Observe that the phrase, “Remain in me”, is repeated in these verses. What is the implication of this repetition?

Jesus is the only true vine (v.1) therefore, we should not allow anything to severe our relationship with Him. What are the consequences of not remaining in Christ (v.6)? Sometimes, we might feel tempted to break away from the main stem temporarily, especially when we are confronted with perplexing situations of life. But that is when we need our connection to Christ the most. Are you going through some tough times right now? They are distractions aimed at breaking you away. Don’t give in to them.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

HYMN: I am Thine, O Lord
1. I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Refrain
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I yet may know
Ere Thee face to face I see;
There are heights of joy that I yet may reach
Ere I rest in peace with Thee.

Closing Prayer
Oh Lord, help me to remain connected to you in all circumstances.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 40:17
