And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose the whole plain of the Jordan for himself and set out toward the east. And Abram and Lot parted company. — Gen 13:10-11
The soul that has made God its portion can afford to be generous!
As the elder, Abraham could have rightfully claimed the first choice, leaving whatever remained to Lot. Yet, he was content to let Lot choose, trusting that his Almighty Friend had already secured the land promised for his inheritance. No matter what Lot chose, he could not claim an inch of the land destined for Abraham in God’s divine plan. “Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land.”
With this quiet confidence, Abraham stood beside Lot and watched as he lifted his eyes to take full advantage of his uncle’s unexpected offer. When Lot chose the lush plain of Sodom, which was as beautiful as Eden, Abraham calmly accepted his choice without anxiety. He looked to God and essentially said, “You are my portion, my inheritance. You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places, and I have a good inheritance.”
Then, after Lot departed, God called Abraham back to the hilltop and gave him all the land in an everlasting covenant, inviting him to walk across it, for it was all his own (Genesis 13:14-17).
Let God choose for you! Especially at the beginning of life, as you stand on the threshold, looking ahead, dare to follow the promptings of His inner voice. His call still rings through the ages: “Follow Me.” “Lo, I am with you always.”

O God, I believe You know what is best for me. I ask for nothing better than to be in Your care, not my own. By Your grace, I will follow You wherever You lead. Amen.
