TOPIC: What’s Our Yield?

SCRIPTURE: Of its own accord the land yields fruit… – Mark 4:28

Catholic Daily Devotional 28 January 2022 Message

As I was growing up, I watched my father tend a small vegetable garden. He was generally an attentive farmer, carefully planning and planting in neat rows I can still see in my mind. But some years were more productive and fruitful than others, depending on his attention to watering and weeding.

Whether we are attentive to our spiritual lives or not, we need to remember we always still bear fruit. The question becomes, “of what quality?” For if our lives of prayer are shallow and dry, the “fruit” we bring to the world will likely reflect that neglect. “No thanks,” others will say, seeing our meager, flavorless harvest. But if we plant seeds of faith deeply in the soil of God’s love and consistently nurture them to ripeness, others will surely take note. They will want a little taste of what they see in us.

Creator God, bless what is growing in me so I can better share you with others.
