SCRIPTURE: Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.
Mark 4:9

Catholic Daily Devotional 26 January 2022 MESSAGE

My sister teaches high school science. She often wonders if she inspires her students. Which ones will bear fruit from the lessons taught in class? It is hard to tell, metaphorically speaking, which students are on rocky ground or surrounded by thorns because of their life circumstances. Or to determine which students are like rich soil—ready to see, hear and listen, as their minds expand—that they may understand and perceive the love of God through the wonder of science. Or which students will forgive those who have wronged them and experience forgiveness.

Today, I ask myself, “How do I receive the Word of God?” I hear it, but have I understood it? What things in my life prevent me from being fertile ground for the Word to bear fruit so I may have the spirit of courage and love?

PRAY: Merciful God, help us remove the things that prevent us from bearing good fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.
