Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it. — Ps 37:5
This psalm from which our text is drawn breathes the spirit of optimism. The Psalmist says: “Do not fret. Evil is fleeting, and evildoers will be cut off. In a little while, the wicked will be no more.” You won’t remove the world’s evils through anxiety or anger. It’s not worth losing your peace of mind over. Be still in your heart, full of prayer, and look to God to intervene and deliver.
The Psalm offers several practices that help preserve inner peace when faced with anxiety or injustice:
Trust in the Lord (Psalm 37:3). Rely on Him. Expect great things from your Almighty Guide and Friend—He cannot fail you.
Delight in the Lord (Psalm 37:4). If your heart is wrapped up in earthly things, you will always be at the mercy of external circumstances. But if your life is aligned with God’s way of thinking, your desires will shift toward eternity, and God will satisfy your heart by giving you more of Himself. The longings of your heart are precious to God, and He never forgets them. “He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Commit your way to the Lord (Psalm 37:5). The margin suggests, “Roll your way upon the Lord.” This means entrusting not only the big decisions of life to Him but also the small, everyday choices. Life is made up of many small moments, and neglecting them can lead to drifting off course. Continually look to your Heavenly Friend, saying, “I can’t see beyond this moment, so I will trust You to guide me.”
Rest in the Lord (Psalm 37:7). “Be still before the Lord.” The world is full of noise, and our hearts often echo with it, making it hard to hear God’s voice. But when we quiet ourselves, we will hear His still, small voice, answering our questions and calming our doubts. Let your requests be known to God, and His peace will guard your heart.

My God and Father, help me to roll my way upon You, to trust You, and to believe that when I stand in Your perfect light, I will understand what I now take on trust. Amen.
