DAILY BIBLE VERSE
So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. — Luke 5:7
We all desire to bring in a great catch for Christ, filling our nets and boats with the souls we’ve reached. How do we do this? There are certain conditions for successful Christian service that must be followed. First, our nets must be clean. The disciples were “washing their nets” when Jesus found them. This necessary work had prepared them to respond immediately when the Master called (Luke 5:4). Likewise, we must cleanse ourselves to be vessels ready for the Master’s use. We should be prepared to answer Christ’s call at any moment.
We must also be willing to obey Christ in small things. Before making a great demand on Peter’s obedience and faith, Jesus first asked him to put out his boat just a little from the shore. Peter complied, allowing Jesus to use the boat as a pulpit. Remember that whenever you lend your boat to Jesus—your time, energy, or resources—He will repay you by giving it back filled with blessings.
Obeying Christ sometimes goes against our own judgment. Peter was an experienced fisherman, knowing that fishing was best done at night. After an unsuccessful night, Jesus asked him to cast the nets again during the day—something that went against his experience. Yet Peter responded, “At Your word I will let down the nets,” and he was rewarded with an abundant catch.
Finally, we must be willing to share our blessings with others. Peter could have kept the haul for himself, but he called others to share in the bounty. Both boats were filled.

O God, You have given us work to do, and we entrust our cares to You. May we remember that we are not our own, and trust that You will provide for us as we seek to do Your will. Amen.
