DAILY BIBLE VERSE
And whichever house he enters, say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is My guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’ — Mark 14:14
There must have been a prior arrangement between our Lord and the owner of the house where the Last Supper took place, who was likely a devoted friend and follower. Jesus knew that the chief priests were plotting His death, and Judas was preparing to betray Him. In order to celebrate the Passover undisturbed, Jesus kept the location secret from all except the two disciples sent to prepare it. They learned where to go by following the man carrying a pitcher of water, a rare sight since men usually did not perform that task. Only when they arrived at the house was the rest of the group informed.
Jesus knew the pain of betrayal within a close circle of friends. You may be facing the same experience—perhaps someone you trusted has proven unreliable, betraying your confidence. Jesus faced this too, feeling the restraint of being around someone unsympathetic and disloyal (John 13:31).
Yet, Jesus also knew the joy of true friendship. What He couldn’t share with all the apostles, He could confide to the owner of the house. They had clearly arranged for this room to be prepared and ready for the Master’s use.
Our Lord still asks for the use of our guest chambers today. He stands at the door of our hearts, knocking and saying, “If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.” Let us not only open our hearts to Him but also extend our homes in hospitality to His people, following the example of those who serve for His Name’s sake (3 John 1:5-8).

Is there anything in my heart that strives to share the throne with You, O Lord? Tear it away, and reign alone as the King of every thought and action. Amen.
