DAILY BIBLE VERSE
But there the Majestic One, our LORD, will be for us a place of rivers and wide canals, where no galley with oars will row, and no majestic vessel will pass. For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our King. It is He who will save us. — Isa 33:21-22
The Revised Version translates our text: “Jehovah will be with us in Majesty.”
This can only refer to our Savior, the Divine Vice-regent of the world. Through Him, the world was created, by Him it has been redeemed, and in Him its government is established. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. His are the Glories of the Cross, of Victory over Death and Hell, of the Ascension, of Pentecost, of the Millennial Reign, and of the Judgment Seat!
This Glorious and Transcendent Savior is willing and eager to be the answer to our deficiencies and needs. We often look around and compare our lives with others, feeling that we are at a disadvantage. Some seem to have everything—happy marriages, beautiful homes, health, and opportunities for travel. Meanwhile, we may feel plagued and chastened each day, leading a confined and limited life, worrying about the future.
But we are not alone in this experience. When everyone else went to their own homes, Jesus spent the night on the Mount of Olives. The birds had nests, and the foxes had dens, but the Son of Man had nowhere to lay His head, often making a stone His pillow. You are not the only one if your life seems barren and lonely. Many of God’s greatest saints have lived from hand to mouth, wandering in deserts and mountains, destitute and afflicted.
These experiences are meant to highlight what the Glorious Lord is prepared to be and do for us. In mathematics, we speak of the complement of a curve—that which completes it into a perfect circle. In the same way, Jesus is willing to complete our lives, however imperfect or lacking they may be. He is able to compensate for all our deficiencies and become in our experience “a place of broad rivers and streams,” both intercepting evil and refreshing our thirsty souls.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Be to us, O Glorious Lord, a place of broad rivers and streams; our Judge, our Lawgiver, our King, our Savior. Turn the wilderness of our lives into pools of water and dry land into springs. Amen.
