As we focus our attention on the end of days, an apocalyptic figure emerges that strikes dread in the hearts of many.
Theologians call him the antichrist. The book of Revelation specifically refers to him as the beast, a man to whom the number 666 is mysteriously associated.
In Hebrew gematria, every number and letter possesses a correlating value. The number 666 signifies that this man will be completely given over to Satan and sin. At that time, one-third of the world’s population will be destroyed, seven years of destruction will be unleashed on the earth, and he will execute anyone who dares to resist him.
While we do not know his identity, the Bible clearly indicates the purpose of his advent. The question begs to be asked: what kind of people – knowing before he comes into power how it all will end – would follow and worship this guy?
Paul, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, described exactly the type of culture that would follow the beast in II Timothy 3:1-5. Since His Word is truth, may it quicken our spirits to recognize that we live in just such a day and that the dominoes are set to fall.
