TEXT: Luke 23:1-49(NKJV)
1 Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting [a]the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”
3 Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”
4 So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.”
5 But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.”
Jesus Faces Herod
6 When Pilate heard [b]of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. 7 And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. 9 Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing. 10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. 11 Then Herod, with his [c]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. 12 That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. Daily Fountain Devotional 7th April 2023 STUDY
Every Good Friday, we commemorate the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pilate and Herod found Him innocent yet, He was still crucified to fulfil the Scriptures (
Isa.53:8-9). He was condemned and crucified with two criminals (Isa.53:12b).Jesus died a slow and painful death reserved for criminals, to set us free (John 19:30)
Jesus was presented before governors, religious rulers, soldiers, criminals, the women and the crowd. These scoffed, abused and rejected Him except one of the thieves and the women who cried for Him. Similarly, Jesus is still presented today to all through the gospel to give men opportunity to be saved. Some still reject Him to satisfy the crowd and protect their positions like Pilate, others make jest of Him like the soldiers.
Some respond like the thief who is interested only in solving his immediate physical need, others like the women, touched by His sufferings but need to cry for their salvation or the crowd who prefer murderers like Barabbas in the society. Only one of the thieves seized the golden opportunity and obtained the ticket for paradise (vs.43) What is your response today? Jesus paid the ultimate price required by God for our salvation. Please accept the sacrifice of Jesus by making Him your Lord and personal Saviour. Will you?
PRAYER: Thank you Lord Jesus that you paid the full price for my salvation. Come into my heart to be the Lord and saviour of my soul.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: I will protect and carry you all the days of your life. Isaiah 46:4
