Daily Fountain Devotional 22 February 2026 TOPIC: The Humanity And Victory Of Jesus In Temptation
SCRIPTURE READING:Â Matthew 4:1-11
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2Â And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3Â And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4Â But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5Â Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6Â And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7Â Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8Â Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9Â And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10Â Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11Â Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
TODAY’S MESSAGE
In Matthew 4:1-11, we witness a profound moment where Jesus, fully God and fully man, faces intense temptation in the wilderness. After fasting for forty days and nights, He experiences real hunger and physical weakness, revealing His genuine humanity. This passage reminds us that Jesus understands our struggles intimately-He does not stand above our trials but walks through them wvith us. His hunger and vulnerability show that He was not immune to hardship, yet He remained steadfast, demonstrating that our human weaknesses do not disqualify us from overcoming temptation.
Jesus’ victory over Satan’s temptations is a powerful example for us today. He counters each of the devil’s lies with Scripture, showing the importance of knowing God’s Word and relying on it as our defense. His triumph encourages us to stand firm in faith, even when we feel weak or pressured to compromise. Just as Jesus overcame the widerness, we too can overcome the challenges and temptations in our lives through dependence on God’s strength and truth.
Let this passage inspire you to remember that you are never alone in your battles-Jesus has walked the path before you and has already won the victory.
