Daily Fountain Devotional 21 June 2026 TOPIC: There Is More To Life
SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 6:24-34
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
TODAY’S MESSAGE
In our text today, the Lord Jesus Christ exhorts His disciples not to worry about their basic needs such as food and clothing. He argues that if God provides for the birds of the air and clothes the grass of the field, He will certainly meet the needs of His children who live according to His purpose. Jesus’ question, “Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” (v. 25), highlights that there is more to life than pursuing ordinary necessities. This does not imply that Christians should be idle or lazy (1 Tim. 5:8; 2 Thess. 3:10; Rom. 12:11).
Rather, it emphasises that instead of being consumed by worldly concerns, Christians should prioritise seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness, by living according to God’s Word. Beloved, as Christians, we are called to a higher purpose than merely pursuing food and shelter. Our primary concern should be how to honour God in our daily lives, not what we will eat or wear. God is aware of our basic needs and desires to sustain us.
His purpose, however, is not for us to fight for these needs at the expense of our Christian integrity. Instead, He has designed us to seek first the things that pertain to His kingdom, living by every word that proceeds from His mouth. Worry can lead to distress, hopelessness, and a loss of faith in God’s ability to provide. When we prioritise God’s kingdom, we can trust that He will provide our needs.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to seek first your kingdom as I trust in you to meet my daily needs.
