Daily Fountain Devotional 11th April 2024 TOPIC: Love, A Sign of Light

      TEXT: John 2:7-14(AMP)
2:7. Jesus said to them, Fill the waterpots with water. So they filled them up to the brim.
2:8. Then He said to them, Draw some out now and take it to the manager of the feast [to the one presiding, the superintendent of the banquet]. So they took him some.
2:9. And when the manager tasted the water just now turned into wine, not knowing where it came from–though the servants who had drawn the water knew–he called the bridegroom

2:10. And said to him, Everyone else serves his best wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then he serves that which is not so good; but you have kept back the good wine until now!

2:11. This, the first of His signs (miracles, wonderworks), Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory [by it He displayed His greatness and His power openly], and His disciples believed in Him [adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him].

2:12. After that He went down to Capernaum with His mother and brothers and disciples, and they stayed there only a few days.
2:13. Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2:14. There He found in the temple [enclosure] those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting there [also at their stands].

STUDY: From the beginning of the world, love and concern for man have characterised God’s relationship with him. No wonder the Psalmist says,“What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man, that you care for him?” (Psalm. 8: 4).

It is very clear that love is of God and a very visible trait of His personality. The salvation of man through the death and resurrection of Christ is a great sign of God’s love. If God is love, then His children who supposedly carry His DNA, must have nothing to do with hatred. If a man cannot love the humans around him, it means that he does not love God. If a man is filled with hatred for others, our text today puts it clearly that such a one is not in the light but dwells in darkness.

Our love for others cannot be hidden. It shows through welfare, care, forgiveness, etc. It might appear very difficult to love those who oppose to us, but loving them shows that we are truly the children of our father who sent his son to die for a sinful world. Rid your heart of every hatred. Forgive those who offend you, and may the light of God continue to shine in and through you. Amen.

PRAYER: Heal my heart O God and may your light shine through me.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: God says “The good things that I have planned for you are too many to count. Psalm 40:5”
