Daily Devotional for Women – August 18, 2026 Tuesday Message
TOPIC: God Can Turn Your Setback Into a Testimony
Today’s Bible Verse
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (KJV)
Devotional Message
Not everything that happens in your life will make sense immediately.
There are moments when a door closes that you desperately wanted to walk through. There are seasons when plans fall apart, relationships change, opportunities disappear, or prayers seem to receive an unexpected answer. In those moments, it can be difficult to imagine that anything good could come from what you are experiencing.
But God sees what you cannot see.
Romans 8:28 does not promise that everything that happens to you will be good. It promises something even more powerful: God can work all things together for good according to His purpose.
Joseph’s story is a beautiful example. His brothers betrayed him, he was taken from his home, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. None of those experiences looked like part of a good plan. Yet God was quietly positioning Joseph for a responsibility far greater than he could have imagined.
Years later, Joseph could look back and recognize that what others intended for harm, God had used for preservation and blessing (Genesis 50:20).
Perhaps you are looking at a difficult chapter of your own life today and wondering, “Why did God allow this?”
You may not have the answer yet.
But you can trust the Author of your story.
God can use disappointment to develop perseverance. He can use rejection to redirect you. He can use waiting to deepen your faith. He can use a closed door to protect you from something you cannot see. Even your painful experiences can become places where His grace is revealed.
This does not mean you have to pretend that everything is easy. You can acknowledge your pain while still trusting God’s purpose. You can grieve what was lost while believing that God is not finished with your story.
Your setback is not necessarily your ending.
The chapter may be difficult, but the Author has not put down the pen.
Today, refuse to allow one disappointing season to define your entire future. Give God the broken pieces, the unanswered questions, and the things you wish had happened differently. Trust Him to weave them together according to His wisdom.
What looks like a setback today may become part of the testimony you will one day use to encourage someone else.
Today’s Reflection
What disappointment or setback are you struggling to understand right now?
Instead of asking only, “Why did this happen?” ask, “Lord, how can You use this season to shape me, strengthen me, or accomplish Your purpose in my life?”
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You because You are the God who sees the entire picture when I can only see one small part of it.
Today, I bring You every disappointment, setback, closed door, and unanswered question that has troubled my heart. Some things have hurt me deeply, and I do not yet understand why You allowed them to happen. But I choose to trust Your wisdom even when I cannot understand Your ways.
Help me not to become bitter because of what went wrong. Give me the grace to learn from every difficult season without allowing it to steal my hope. Heal the places in my heart that still carry pain, disappointment, or regret.
Lord, take every broken piece of my story and use it for Your glory. Turn my trials into lessons, my wounds into sources of compassion, and my struggles into testimonies of Your faithfulness.
When I cannot see what You are doing, remind me that You are still working. When I feel delayed, remind me that I am not forgotten. When a door closes, give me the courage to believe that You may be leading me toward something better.
I surrender my past, my present, and my future to You. I trust You to work all things together according to Your perfect purpose.
Let my life become a testimony that no setback is beyond Your ability to redeem.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
