TOPIC: Never Stop Appreciating Your Spouse
One of the easiest things to stop noticing is what we have become accustomed to. The sacrifices that once impressed us can eventually become expected. The kindness we once celebrated can become ordinary.
But love grows stronger when appreciation remains intentional.
Your spouse may be doing many things every day that deserve to be noticed, yet they may rarely hear the words, “Thank you.” Today is an opportunity to change that.

Today’s Devotional Message
Appreciation is one of the simplest ways to strengthen a marriage, but it is often overlooked.
When couples have been together for a long time, they can become so familiar with each other’s responsibilities that they stop acknowledging them. A husband works hard to provide, but his effort becomes routine. A wife cares for the home and family, but her sacrifices become expected. One spouse supports the other’s dreams, but that support is rarely recognized.
Over time, a lack of appreciation can create emotional fatigue.
The Bible encourages us to recognize and honor one another. Paul repeatedly expressed gratitude for the people God had placed in his life. His words remind us that gratitude should not remain in our hearts—it should be expressed.
Your spouse needs to know that you see them.
Tell them when you appreciate their patience. Thank them for standing beside you during difficult seasons. Acknowledge the sacrifices they make. Celebrate their progress. Notice the little things they do that make your life easier.
And don’t wait for a special occasion.
A heartfelt “Thank you for always being there for me” can mean more than an expensive gift. A simple “I appreciate how hard you work for our family” can encourage a tired spouse. Sometimes a loving message in the middle of a busy day can remind your husband or wife that they are valued.
Appreciation also protects your heart from taking your spouse for granted. When you intentionally look for reasons to be grateful, you begin seeing the good that may have become invisible through familiarity.
This does not mean ignoring areas that need improvement. Healthy marriages still require honest conversations and growth. But correction should never become so dominant that appreciation disappears.
Make appreciation part of your marriage culture.
Notice your spouse. Celebrate your spouse. Thank your spouse. And most importantly, thank God for the person He has entrusted to walk beside you.
A marriage where appreciation is freely expressed becomes a place where both husband and wife feel seen, valued, and loved.
Action Prompt for Today
Tell your spouse five specific things you appreciate about them.
Avoid general statements such as “You’re a good person.” Be specific. Mention their character, sacrifices, kindness, strength, patience, sense of humor, faith, or something they recently did that blessed you.
Then say a simple prayer of thanksgiving to God together for your marriage.
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of marriage and for the person You have placed beside us. Forgive us for the times we have become so familiar with our spouse that we stopped noticing the beautiful things they do.
Give us grateful hearts that recognize and appreciate one another. Help us never to take each other’s love, sacrifices, companionship, or support for granted.
Teach us to express appreciation freely and sincerely. Put words of encouragement in our mouths and help us to notice the little things that often go unseen.
Where either of us feels overlooked, bring healing. Where there has been discouragement, bring renewed strength. Help us to celebrate each other’s victories and stand faithfully beside each other through difficult seasons.
May our marriage be filled with gratitude, honor, affection, and genuine friendship. Help us to see each other through eyes of love and to continually thank You for the blessing of walking through life together.
Let our words and actions remind each other, every day, “You are valued. You are appreciated. You are loved.”
