HELP FROM THE LORD
Rebecca Wilson (Oregon, USA)

TODAY’S READING
Daniel 9:17-23

Gabriel said to Daniel, “As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.” – Daniel 9:23 (NIV)

I was a single mother, and at one point, I was unemployed and without a vehicle. But I needed a car to get a job. If I couldn’t get to work, I couldn’t care for myself and my child. I cried and prayed, and I spoke with some people at church about it.

Not long after speaking with them, a couple of church elders came to me. They had been to a local car-repair shop, and because the owner was also a Christian, they told them my story. They said the three of them prayed about it right then. And as soon as they said, “Amen,” a man walked into the shop wanting to sell his vehicle. Then he paused and said, “Or if you know anyone who needs a car, I can give it away because we’re getting a new one.” They were amazed but not surprised. They knew the power of two or more gathered in God’s name (see Matt. 18:20). That car had over one hundred thousand miles on it, but it lasted me several years. I was even able to trade it in later for a newer car.

This experience reminded me of today’s verse. God is attentive to the prayers of those who feel powerless and cares for all of God’s children.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Precious Jesus, thank you for your care for us and for hearing our prayers. Grant us your peace when we feel powerless. Amen.
