TOPIC: The Place of the Father

BIBLE READING: Luke 15-20

TEXT: “But they said we will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:”
Jeremiah. 35 :6.

The place of the father figure in the healthy development of a child cannot be overemphasized. Yet it is the major missing link in balancing the destinies of most children today. Every man can be a biological father of a child, but not all are positive male factors in a child’s life that may be considered as one of the secrets of his or her life success.

Most fathers are simply known as the suppliers of all that is needed to keep the family running.
Sometimes, he is even considered as the male factor that should be given a lit of room to rest after a hard day’s job, inaccessible to the children. The upbringing of the child is considered as the responsibility of the mothers. It is very true that the major responsibility for child training rest with the mothers. But, just like bodily exercise, there is the profit of a father which every child needs to be a total and complete healthy adult.

Taking a look at the story of Eli and his sons in 1 Samuel 3 :13;. the only one blamed for the misdemeanors of his sons was Eli. There is neither trace, nor mention of their mother’s failure to train them properly. God held Eli absolutely responsible for not instilling the fear of the Lord in his children.

The glorious testimony of the Rechabites in Jeremiah 35 :6 – 8 was traced to the instructions of Jonadab their father, which ran down generations.

As it was with Eli, there is no record of their mother. Perhaps, the place of the mother is secondary only to that of the father. She is to constantly re-echo and ensure the father’s instructions are adhered to.

I pray for you, your absence will not be felt in your presence.

PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, help me to be a good father.
