Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, expose me to your truth as I read your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:15–31

• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 July 2020 Message

David confessed his sin and God forgave him. Nevertheless, God’s verdict is that the child shall die. David laboured day and night in prayers, with tears and fasting, that God may forgive him and spare the life of the baby boy. God refused to answer the prayers. The child died. This marks the beginning of the fulfilment of Nathan’s prophecy and was probably the time David wrote Psalm 51.

You may pause to read and meditate on it. Some of the qualities of David are brokenness, contrite heart and humility. These qualities made him a friend of God at all times. (Read Psalms 51:16, 17; 138:6). David rose from his long fasting and prayer, cleaned himself and then went into the house of God to worship (v.20). This is a good example for us to always accept God’s decision on any matter pertaining to his will. He is God Almighty and knows what is best for us.

Eventually, we see God again remembering the king. He gave him another child by the same woman. Moreover, he gave the king victory over the Ammonites. God is merciful and gracious. He will not abandon or forsake those who turn to him in confession and worship.
