TOPIC: A Day with Joni ~ Go and Tell
I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He answered me from His holy hill. Selah
– Psalm 3:4
I remember being in elementary school music class as we prepared for the annual Christmas concert. We were to sing, “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”
Still too young to have developed the concept of metaphors, I remember thinking the song lyric so strange: Why in the world would God want us to climb a mountain to tell people Jesus was born? That seemed like a lot of trouble when we could just pick up the phone, or proclaim it on television or in the newspapers. Of course, I get the words and the meaning to this song now.
The glorious birth of our Savior should be told, celebrated – shouted from the mountaintops. But my friend, I have another thought for you. Our Lord’s salvation should all the more be proclaimed from the depths. That’s where we often cry out to Him – from the valleys between life’s mountainous occasions – and He answers. That’s a telling testimony: I cried out and He heard my call!
If you’re there today, cry out to Him. He will hear and answer you. When you’ve found Him in the valley, go tell it!
Almighty God: The psalmist asked, How are they increased that trouble me? I can often relate. Thank You for hearing my cries. Thank You for your abiding presence, “over the hills and everywhere.” May I celebrate Your goodness and proclaim Your faithfulness today and always.
