DCLM Daily Manna 23 August 2018 Devotional by Pastor Kumuyi

TOPIC: Failure Of Trust In Man

TEXT: ISAIAH 31:1-9

KEY VERSE: “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD”
(Isaiah 31:1).

MESSAGE: There is no king saved by the multitude of an host; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him …to deliver their soul from death …Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield” (PSALMS 33:16-20).

DCLM Daily Manna 23 August 2018 Devotional: Failure Of Trust In Man by Pastor Kumuyi

In the passage of study today, the Jews trusted in numbers, looking up to the horses and chariots of Egypt because they were many. Alas, this is neither peculiar to the Jews nor limited to any age or dispensation. It is a continual spiritual peril. Many think there is safety or salvation in numbers. Trust in apparent human strength has always proved disastrous. Egyptians were men and not God. Men have been known to break their promises and withdraw their support in the last minute. God is angry and offended when His Word is disobeyed and He Himself is distrusted and deserted for carnal help. Trusting in man ignores the huge resources available from God.

Today, men still look for relief from wrong sources in the day of trouble, forgetting that the Lord is our Refuge and Helper. Men still seek for happiness in wrong paths, forgetting that the source of true happiness is to align our will with His will. Men still seek for salvation in other ways outside of Christ, the only Way, Truth and Life. Repent quickly if you are amongst those who lean on men’s shoulders during perilous times. God remains our present Help in times of trouble. Take full advantage of your covenant blessings in Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Our soul waits for the Lord: He is our Help and Shield.

TOPIC: Break the Barrier

TEXT: ACTS 11:1-18a

KEY VERSE: “But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common”
(Acts 11:9).

MESSAGE: It is quite important to understand that life throws diverse forms of barriers on our way to progress. The most significant key to success in life is how effectively one handles the barriers. In today’s text, Peter faced two critical situations. One was the confrontation from the elders of the church in Jerusalem who expressed displeasure about his preaching to the Gentiles. His response is a classic example of how to handle misunderstandings among brethren in the church. He humbly and courteously narrated the events that led him to the Gentiles with the gospel of salvation.

The explanation was no doubt convincing because Peter was doing the will of God and was wise in his presentation. “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger” (Proverbs 15:1). There will be less suspicion, bickering, divisions and splinter groups in the family and society, if we all learn to display humility as we communicate with one another. A believer should not feel too big to be questioned.

Peter’s other challenge was the innate Jewish prejudice against the Gentiles which was easily taken away from him once he surrendered to the absolute will and word of God. The Church will certainly be able to do more good in the world by drawing sinners to Christ, if members of the Body of Christ will do away with all forms of prejudice and the holier-than-thou attitude. To win people to Christ requires genuine demonstration of love to others in our neighbourhood, marketplace, workplace or wherever we have the opportunity of interacting with others.
It is not God’s will to discriminate against any on the basis of tribe, status, gender or any other factor either in the church or outside.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Barriers separate, but love attracts.

DCLM Daily Manna 18 October 2018 Devotional by Pastor W.F. Kumuyi

Topic: Consider The Consequence

Text: Judges 21:1-15

Key Verse: “Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife” (Judges 21:1).

DCLM Daily Manna 18 October 2018 Message: The need to pause and evaluate issues critically before taking decisions cannot be overemphasised. It has been said that today’s decision is tomorrow’s reality. Every decision we take will, by extension, have implications on the lives of many others, even generations yet unborn.
Israel, in her presumed zeal for God, twice took decisions in anger which they ended up regretting. Their rash decisions resulted in the destruction of lives which they could not restore. In fact, they had to also kill the men of Jabesh Gilead in their attempt to get wives for the Benjamites which still couldn’t solve the problem. It is important to note that God warns against anger or associating with an angry or furious man (Ephesians 4:31; Proverbs 22:24).

Decisions taken in anger or reacting angrily to issues is a reflection of the foolishness in man because “He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly…” (Proverbs 14:17). Rash decisions often result in regrets. It compounds man’s problem and aggravates error and disaster.

DCLM Daily Manna 18 October 2018 Devotional – Consider The Consequence

It is wrong for anyone to take another person’s life under the excuse of being zealous for God. There can be no element of divinity in any spurious swallowing up of humanity. Therefore, subsume your temper to the control of the Almighty. To avoid fatal errors and regrets, approach God in prayers before taking decisions. “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established”

Thought for the Day: Think before you act; don’t act before you think.

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 17 October 2018 – The Escape Route by Pastor Kumuyi

TOPIC: The Escape Route

TEXT: Matthew 11:20-30

KEY VERSE: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Mathew 11:28).

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 17 October 2018 MESSAGE: Practical experiences during childhood reveals that, it isn’t all the threats or lies aimed at creating fear in the child that are real. Most times, an inquisitive child soon discovers that nothing like the foretold consequences happens. This often emboldens him/her to flout other instructions believing that there would be no serious adverse consequence after all.

This same scenario, no doubt, plays itself out in the attitude of most people concerning the stern warning of Christ to the religious, carefree and impenitent of the dire consequences of their sinful lifestyle. We need to understand that God is not a man. His words will ever be true and He has appointed a day for judgment of evil men and women. Many justify their rebellion against God on the grounds that many church leaders and religious people commit sin without any consequence.

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 17 October 2018 – The Escape Route by Pastor Kumuyi
The Scripture describes the unfortunate condition thus: “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil” (Ecclesiastes 8:11). It should, however, be noted that no sinner will go unpunished, because on the judgment day, God will not be swayed by money, emotion or any other factor.

The sure way of escape is repentance and faith in Christ as revealed through the solemn invitation in our text. Those who reject the invitation of Christ to repentance today will one day face the sordid reality of judgment in hell. Be wise to repent by acknowledging, confessing and forsaking your sins so that heaven can rejoice over you too. Pray for pardon.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The wheel of God’s judgment may drive slowly, but it is imminent.
