Topic: Get His Approval

Key Verse: “And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth” (Genesis 11:4).

Message: The building of the tower of Babel by fallible men is x-rayed in today’s text. The builders of the tower were seemingly unstoppable. They had the zeal, materials and everything that was needed to accomplish the task. But like it is said that man proposes, God disposes. Their plan fell through. Immediately after the flood, the descendants of Noah were bound together by a common language. With their common language, they migrated to Shinar.

DCLM Daily Manna 13th June 2018 Devotional by Pastor W.F. Kumuyi – Get His Approval

Their decision to build a tower was against the will of God to multiply and repopulate the entire world. God was evidently left out of the plan to build the tower. They wholly depended on their skills and never bothered to seek God’s approval. Their common language, which ordinarily should be a blessing to them, turned into their disadvantage.

The best way to stop misguided man was to confuse their speech. Being unable to communicate instructions and dreams to one another, the inhabitants immediately gave up their common goal and set out across the world in accordance with God’s original plan.
This outcome teaches about the danger of self-will. Any project by a child of God that does not enjoy God’s approval is doomed to fail. Those who rely on their beauty, handsomeness, level of education, wealth and other physical endowments in total disregard for God, will always have disappointment at the zenith of their achievement.

DCLM Daily Manna 13th June 2018 Devotional by Pastor W.F. Kumuyi – Get His Approval

No one can be smarter than God. It is always in our own interest to table before Him the projects we propose to undertake and seek His divine approval. He never says no, if a proposal reflects His will. He may make one or two adjustments to make the best of the project. But when He says no, it means the project is not viable. We must learn to align our plans with God’s will.

Thought for the day: No amount of skills can qualify a project that God does not approve.

DCLM Daily Manna 16 October 2018 Devotional by Pastor W.F. Kumuyi

TOPIC: He Is Ever Faithful

TEXT: PSALMS 89:30-46

KEY VERSE: “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips”
(PSALMS 89:34).

MESSAGE: The story was told of an exhausted wayfarer who ran out of water in a desert. He later got to a well and in his desperation pumped with the strength remaining in him with the aim of getting water but to no avail. About to give up, he saw a jug of water with an inscription on the side directing him to pour the water into the machine for priming before pumping to get water. In this desperate situation, he was afraid of taking the risk of pouring the water into the pump and not getting needed result. However, he summoned up courage, poured the water into the pump and started pumping. He got water surging out of the well which he used to refresh himself, stored up for his journey and filled back the jug as he was instructed.

DCLM Daily Manna 16 October 2018 Devotional – He Is Ever Faithful

The house of David had a divine bouquet of promises wrapped in God’s faithfulness and love. He promised pardon since God knew that sin could block their access to His promises. God’s promises are true, universal and made out of a heart of love. However, the enjoyment of His divine benevolence is always predicated on readiness to fulfil certain conditions.

As it was with the desert traveller, drawing from God’s well of love and mercy, so is it for everyone who approaches the throne of grace with faith and trust. Your destination depends on the route you choose. To benefit from God’s unbroken promises and put an end to grumbling, complaints and lamentations, decide to turn away from sin and receive Christ as your personal Saviour. Then He will forever remain faithful if you consistently abide in His word.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God is ever faithful when He is approached in penitence.

Topic: There is Hope

Text: EZRA 10:1-14

Key Verse: “…We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing” (Ezra 10:2).

DCLM Daily Manna 15 October 2018 MESSAGE:                                                                                                        Most often, it has been discovered that people fail in life not because of the enormity of their problems, but because they give up easily and are not ready to take personal responsibility for their circumstances. Actually quitters never win.

The passage reveals the challenges Ezra and some concerned leaders faced in bringing Israel back to God from their backslidden state. They prayed, wept, confessed, repented and made restitutions. It is clear from their action and attitude that they clearly understood the maxim that “Every cloud has a silver lining”.

The uniform testimony of the Scripture is that as much as God is angry with sin, He loves the sinner and is ready to deliver those who follow the path of repentance and rectitude. A lot of problems with individuals and society will be solved, if we pray aright rather than search for answers where they don’t exist. Going to the mountains, visiting prophets, paying and compensating people to hold vigils on our behalf will amount to nothing if we do not sincerely repent. You can experience positive change, if you simply look inwards, own up to your faults, confess them to God, repent of them, make restitutions where necessary and yield to Christ completely. This will definitely open the door of recovery, revival and renewal in your life. Be courageous to do it because there is still hope for you.

Thought for the Day: The darker your night, the brighter your dawn when you repent.

DCLM Daily Manna 14 October 2018 Devotional

TOPIC: Stand And Be Counted

TEXT: 2 KINGS 11:1-12

KEY VERSE: “And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in”
(2 Kings 11:8).

MESSAGE: Today’s passage reveals the commendable efforts of some individuals who put their lives at risk against the murderous and treacherous onslaught of Athaliah, who sought to usurp royal authority after the death of her son by killing the entire seed royal. But God frustrated her agenda through the courageous efforts of personalities like Jehosheba, the sister of Ahaziah who hid Joash and his nurse from death. Jehoiada the priest mobilised guards to keep watch over the king’s son. The rulers over hundreds, the captains and the guards all played their roles faithfully to ensure the safety of the king’s son until he was old enough to take over the realms of power in the kingdom.

DCLM Daily Manna 14 October 2018 Devotional – Stand And Be Counted

A crucial lesson from this passage is that we must understand that no one is insignificant in the quest to sustain right values and move the society forward. Rather than criticise and blame evil men and women like Athaliah for the challenges in our nation, we should look inward for ways to contribute our little quota in making things better like Jehosheba and others. A little act of kindness, a little courageous effort could ensure the salvation of souls. Parents must show godly examples to their children and raise them to be responsible citizens. In the workplace, we must demonstrate loyalty, conscientiousness and honesty. Bosses like Jehoiada must give direction, provide resources and motivate workers under them to give their best.

Most importantly, as a Christian, you are to demonstrate your love for the King and His kingdom by jealously guarding the truth of the gospel as well as propagate it faithfully.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You will be remembered by what you have done.
